Optimizing Safety and Efficiency
ARiVA ADS-B offers air traffic controllers, vehicle operators and airport operations centers an accurate view of the complete surface situation improving collaboration, safety, and efficiency.
PASSUR offers an extensive range of ADS-B vehicle tracking and surveillance hardware solutions designed to support airports and airlines in enhancing airfield monitoring, situational awareness, and safety. To date, PASSUR has supplied and installed more than 2,300 Vehicle Movement Area Transponder (VMAT) ADS-B units throughout the United States, equipping a diverse array of airport and airline vehicles.
Additionally, PASSUR can strengthen existing airport surveillance systems by deploying dual-band (978MHz and 1090MHz) network-enabled terrestrial ADS-B receivers. These receivers deliver reliable ADS-B coverage at high, ground, surface, and low-altitude levels.
PASSUR’s Vehicle Movement Area Transponder (VMAT) Program supports Airports in fulfilling the requirements specified by FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5220-26. PASSUR’s integrated service package encompasses not only advanced hardware but also ongoing system support, and situational awareness tools designed to help airports achieve the safety and efficiency objectives outlined in the FAA AC. The portfolio of services offered includes:
The ARiVA VMAT Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) vehicle tracking unit solution provides accurate, real-time tracking of surface vehicles across the airport movement area. VMAT offers air traffic controllers, vehicle operators and airport operations centers an accurate view of the complete surface situation improving collaboration, safety, efficiency and reducing runway incursions. Using ADS-B data to track vehicles, VMAT is the only universal access transceiver certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). VMATs are compatible with the FAA’s ADS-B surveillance data network currently integrated into the National Airspace System (NAS).
Each vehicle is clearly and uniquely identified, providing an essential addition to any surface movement guidance and control system. This increases operational safety and efficiency for all airport stakeholders. Ground vehicle incursions in critical safety and movement areas on airport surfaces are on the rise. VMAT shares ground vehicle position, velocity and data with other ground vehicles, aircraft and ground station equipment. It transmits location data once per second providing a reliable real-time depiction of VMAT-equipped vehicles and their proximity to aircraft and other airport assets. VMATs are FAA AIP Fund eligible at all ASDE-X, ASSC and FAA SAI airports.
VMAT data is automatically integrated into the ARiVA Platform and MobileVue products. This combined approach provides operations management and vehicle operators with complete airport-wide situational awareness.
MobileVue provides the Airport with terminal area and surface situational awareness on mobile devices (iPad, iPhone, Android tablet, Android phone devices and laptops). This is ideal for vehicle operators, airfield personnel and managers regardless of location, MobileVue leverages a proprietary, fused ARiVA Surveillance Data feed to display airport maps with real-time aircraft and surface vehicle movements.
PASSUR can augment existing surveillance at an airport through the deployment of dual-band (978MHz and 1090MHz) networkable terrestrial ADS-B receivers. These receivers provide high, ground, surface, and low-altitude ADS-B surveillance. Installation is typically very simple with an included pole-mount bracket, a single Power-Over-Ethernet (POE) device, and a cellular modem for communications. The ADS-B data from these receivers is collected and fused with PASSUR’s ARiVA Surveillance Data to enhance situational awareness across the airfield in both movement and non-movement areas. By incorporating ADS-B receiver data with PASSUR surveillance data, the ARiVA Prime and MobileVue users obtain a more complete and comprehensive view of their operations.
ADS-B receiver data is integrated with PASSUR’s ARiVA Global Data Feed and is made available in PASSUR applications. Upon installation of the ADS-B receivers, PASSUR can monitor the receivers and data transfers, as well as provide remote customer support and remote troubleshooting services.
