Vehicle Movement Area Transponder (VMAT)
ARiVA VMAT - Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) vehicle tracking unit
VMAT offers air traffic controllers, vehicle operators and airport operations centers an accurate view of the complete surface situation improving collaboration, safety, efficiency and reducing runway incursions. Using ADS-B data to track vehicles, VMAT is the only universal access transceiver certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
ARiVA VMAT
The ARiVA VMAT ADS-B vehicle tracking unit solution provides accurate, real-time tracking of surface vehicles across the airport movement area.
Ground vehicle position reporting
The most accurate real-time ground vehicle position reporting available
VMATs are compatible with the FAA’s ADS-B surveillance data network currently integrated into the National Airspace System (NAS). Each vehicle is clearly and uniquely identified, providing an essential addition to any surface movement guidance and control system. This increases operational safety and efficiency for all airport stakeholders.
Ground vehicle incursions in critical safety and movement areas on airport surfaces are on the rise. VMAT shares ground vehicle position, velocity and identity data with other ground vehicles, aircraft and ground station equipment. It transmits location data once per second providing a reliable real-time depiction of VMAT-equipped vehicles and their proximity to aircraft and other airport assets.
Display options
VMAT automatically allows vehicle movement data to be integrated into the OpsVue™ and MobileVue® products. This combined approach provides operations management and vehicle operators complete airport-wide situational awareness.
Mount options
VMAT tracking unit – internal and external mount options
PASSUR provides options for an internally and externally mounted VMAT unit. Each VMAT unit is fully compliant with FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5220-26. It enables continuous transmission of vehicle position and identification. Data is received by the FAA ADS-B ground infrastructure and displayed on air traffic controller monitors. This allows for full awareness of the location of the vehicles in the movement area. Vehicle identification data is programmed through a universal serial bus (USB) maintenance interface.
